Little Cherubs is five this month! It's amazing what can happen in a few short years; I started Little Cherubs as a hobby page, when my eldest was almost one. I photographed many friends and their children, and worked in hospitals taking pictures of newborn babies, and not once did I ever think I'd be doing what I am now! I'd spent years studying photography - but I didn't know what I wanted to do with it, I was the person that smiled at babies in passing and make them cry, and had no idea how to interact with children! Daisy (above), changed that and being thrust into the crazy world that is motherhood soon built my confidence with babies and children. I became ill in 2014, and had to leave my job whilst i recovered and it was then that I realised that maybe Little Cherubs Photography could be a *thing*, that maybe I could make something from my love of photography - and babies! Let me tell you something - starting a business with no idea of how to actually run a business is hard! I found a group of lovely helpful ladies (which has grown exponentially and has some of the loveliest and helpful people you'll find anywhere) and with some research and help, I not only have a business, I'm running a specialist newborn and baby photography studio. Here are a few of my favourite images from some of my latest sessions: Newborn and Cake Smash PhotographerMy most popular sessions are newborn and cake smashes, and it's that reason that I decided to celebrate our birthday (and one year studio anniversary!) with a special discount on my Watch Me Grow milestone package, and offering a free 'sitter' session (a photo shoot once baby can sit confidently and before they start moving) with any standalone newborn photography session booking. Watch Me Grow - for just £95, you can have a newborn session (when baby is between 7-21 days old), a sitter session at 6-9 months and then a one year portrait session to celebrate baby's first birthday - each session includes a 12x8 print and you can upgrade the last session to a cake smash for an additional £20. These sessions are not only lovely for families, they are amazing for me - I love watching families adapt and grow with their new baby!
I hope to see even more families this year! Emma :) Cake Smash Photos - What's The Fuss?Cake Smash and Splash photography sessions are becoming more and more popular, and are fast becoming my best selling session! The main concept is that a baby is let loose on a whole birthday cake while a photographer snaps away - messy, but fun! It's a bit of a marmite session - some love it (me included!) and some do not like the idea at all, due to the cake wastage (although you'd be surprised at how much cake is left over at the end; some parents have even taken it home to use the good side as baby's birthday cake!!) What happens at a cake smash photo shoot with Little Cherubs Photography? My sessions start with some simple portraits, focusing on baby on this special milestone. I ask my clients to bring a couple of baby's best outfits for this part of the session, which usually lasts 10-20 minutes. Whilst I set up the cake smash set, parents dress baby in the cake smash outfit - this can either be one of the outfits provided in the studio, or parents can bring their own. The list of possible themes and colours for the session are endless; if there's something specific you have in mind, let me know when you book in and I'll do my best to accommodate it - I've had Disney inspired, rainbows, even a zombie cake smash! Once baby is ready, out comes the cake and so the chaos begins! Babies are usually a little unsure when they have the cake in front of them, so I encourage parents to get some and let them have a little taste - that way they know it is for eating and tastes great! Some babies totally go for it and smash the cake to pieces, but most pick at the icing and take delicate nibbles of cake - yet they still end up covered in it, even if the cake is mostly still in tact! What is the best way to clean up after a cake smash? A splash in the tub! I have Johnson's bubble bath in the studio, but if your baby has sensitive skin, I recommend you bring your own in. I provide a towel to dry baby off afterwards too. Tips for getting the most out of your cake smash photo session -
Of course, cake smashes aren't just for babies! Maybe you have an older child who would love to have a cake smash, or even a grown up one for a special birthday?
