As a newborn photographer there aren't many things that phase me; getting splattered in someone else's baby's poo? No problem, I layer my clothes so that if it gets really bad I can take off most of the soiled clothing without needing an outfit change! But middle of winter and my main studio heating doesn't work? Well that had me stumped! If you've read my newborn page you'll know that I get the studio toasty warm (around 26-28 degrees depending on each baby) so that I can keep newborns comfortable while they have nothing on! I had baby Isabelle due to come in with her family and very little heating, and I had to think quick - what could I do? My office! It's a tiny little room that I use for my viewing and ordering sessions, but as it's so little, it would be quick to heat up with my two little heaters. So Isabelle's session was done entirely in my tiny little office, which was definitely cosy! I love having awake babies for part of the session! So many parents worry that baby won't sleep during the session, but I encourage some awake shots before I get baby to sleep (and I do get babies to sleep, I've only had one completely refuse and he knows who he is!). Isabelle was fascinated with my studio light as you can see above. Once we'd got some awake shots, it was time to get her to sleep! I always ask if there's something special that parents would like me to try and incorporate into their session, and Isabelle's mummy brought her tiara from her wedding and I just knew I had to get this image with it! Isabelle was amazing and slept soundly and barely stirred as I posed her throughout the session. I have so many headbands and hats for newborns that I can't choose so I let parents do that! I do love when this little bear hat comes out, it's a favourite of many! After we'd finished on the beanbag, I wrapped baby and set up my furry flokati blanket out in the main studio space with fan heaters blowing to get the sibling shots that mum had asked for. I wasn't convinced we'd get them; it was colder out there than in the office and getting toddlers to lay still usually takes time and patience... but with the promise of some sweeties (I always have a stock of snacks to help encourage little ones!) we got it! I hope enjoyed looking through some of Isabelle's session!
