Mum & Me Mini Sessions - Why Mums Need To Exist In Photographs - March Family Photographer22/3/2017
I backed up all of my phone pictures last night, and out of around 600 photos, I was in three. Three! You never know what is around the corner and I want to leave my children with photographs of me (actual physical photographs - when was the last time you loaded up a floppy disk, or a CD?) which they can then pass on to grandchildren and so on, keeping memories alive. It's time we existed in photographs! I'm not saying everyone should go out and book a professional photographer - I understand that everyone's budgets stretch in different ways and sometimes it's just not possible. But we should get in more photographs with our children, if you don't have anyone to take a picture - take a selfie! In our house, it's always me taking photographs (of course haha!) and I've taken hundreds of the kids and their daddy, but men often don't think to take pictures of us with the children - and they're not completely to blame; how many of us mums cringe when someone tries to take a photograph of us? Maybe we feel too big, too skinny, too wobbly, hair is too messy, no makeup... it really doesn't matter, our children won't care that we hadn't washed our hair for two days before the picture was taken (thank goodness for dry shampoo!). We need to be more proactive in being included in photographs. With this in mind, I launched my Mum & Me mini sessions. Mini sessions are exactly what they say on the tin, smaller versions of my standard sessions, but with the added value of products included in the session price. So, this post went in a totally different direction to what I'd initially planned! But the main point is this - we need to be in more photos with our children, end of. Whether it be phone pictures taken by daddy, selfies, or with a professional photographer, we need to #ExistInPhotographs Contact me today to book your session Emma xx Ten Essentials To Pack In Your Hospital Bag - Peterborough & March Newborn Baby Photographer5/3/2017 One of the many tasks to tick off your pre-baby checklist is The Hospital Bag. For those who aren't aware of what this is, it's your (and don't forget one for baby - I'll cover that another time) overnight bag (pack for a few nights just in case) for when you go into hospital to have your baby.
So what should you pack in your bag? It's easy to forget things as you pack, you will remember things like clothes for you and baby, but what about the rest? I asked some new mums for their 'must have' hospital bag essentials:
Do you have any other must have items to pack in your hospital bag? Please let me know in the comments! Emma :) As a newborn photographer there aren't many things that phase me; getting splattered in someone else's baby's poo? No problem, I layer my clothes so that if it gets really bad I can take off most of the soiled clothing without needing an outfit change! But middle of winter and my main studio heating doesn't work? Well that had me stumped! If you've read my newborn page you'll know that I get the studio toasty warm (around 26-28 degrees depending on each baby) so that I can keep newborns comfortable while they have nothing on! I had baby Isabelle due to come in with her family and very little heating, and I had to think quick - what could I do? My office! It's a tiny little room that I use for my viewing and ordering sessions, but as it's so little, it would be quick to heat up with my two little heaters. So Isabelle's session was done entirely in my tiny little office, which was definitely cosy! I love having awake babies for part of the session! So many parents worry that baby won't sleep during the session, but I encourage some awake shots before I get baby to sleep (and I do get babies to sleep, I've only had one completely refuse and he knows who he is!). Isabelle was fascinated with my studio light as you can see above. Once we'd got some awake shots, it was time to get her to sleep! I always ask if there's something special that parents would like me to try and incorporate into their session, and Isabelle's mummy brought her tiara from her wedding and I just knew I had to get this image with it! Isabelle was amazing and slept soundly and barely stirred as I posed her throughout the session. I have so many headbands and hats for newborns that I can't choose so I let parents do that! I do love when this little bear hat comes out, it's a favourite of many! After we'd finished on the beanbag, I wrapped baby and set up my furry flokati blanket out in the main studio space with fan heaters blowing to get the sibling shots that mum had asked for. I wasn't convinced we'd get them; it was colder out there than in the office and getting toddlers to lay still usually takes time and patience... but with the promise of some sweeties (I always have a stock of snacks to help encourage little ones!) we got it! I hope enjoyed looking through some of Isabelle's session!
